Mary's Prospect

The first gazebo was built here in 1856, not only for pilgrims, but also for the fire patrol, which had a good overview of the area from the table mountains of today's Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland in the northwest to the peaks of the Lusatian Mountains to the east. Towards the south, in good weather, you can also see the hills of the Bohemian Central Highlands.

Fire was already a threat in this region, as can be seen. The most famous fire in modern history is the one in 2006, when the forest around Havraní Hill burned for a whole week and was extinguished for the next 14 days. The national park administration then decided to leave the area to natural regeneration, and you can see the result of this successful experiment for yourself on the way to Maria's Lookout.

From Jetřichovice you can take the red nature trail Jetřichovice walls, which is one of the most beautiful trails in Bohemian Switzerland. In season you will meet crowds of tourists here, but if you land and try to catch the sunrise, you have a good chance that you will be alone at the viewpoint, at most with a few photography enthusiasts who are waiting for the first shots of the first rays above the fog rolling in the valley.

On the way to the lookout, be prepared to climb through a tunnel carved out of the sandstone rock, over steps and bridges, but the NP administration has recently had them renovated, so they are, with a little care, safe.

The gazebo at the top of Mary's Rock, which was installed here in 2021 by helicopter to much fanfare, is also brand new. It is said to resemble the original one, and it has to be said that it suits Mary's Rock quite well.

If you feel like it, the nature trail (and also the E troika) will lead you from Mary's Lookout to the Vilemínina Stěna lookout, named after the wife of Prince Rudolf Kinský, whose contribution to the development of the Jetřichovice area in the 19th century.

Those who have the strength to spare can go even further, to the Rudolf's Stone viewpoint and from there a little further along the red trail to the Pohovka crossroads and along the green trail back to Jetřichovice.
